What is the future of EU ports? How feasible is solar energy production in the port? How easy or difficult is it to reduce the port’s carbon footprint?

These are only some of the questions you will get answers for in our upcoming seminar "Greener Ports" scheduled on October 12th, 2022 in Oulu, Finland

This one-day event is an opportunity for Europe’s maritime community to network, discuss and outline joint action on maritime affairs and sustainable blue economy. The event brings togetherkeynote speakers from industry and academia, as well as energy and environmental practitioners. You will hear about new EU regulations in the maritime sector, views on recent port developments and successful applications of green solutions.

The event is organised by ERDF funded Energywise Ports project, which has been implemented by Water, Energy and Environmental Engineering research group of the University of Oulu.

During the project, port authorities in the region have participated in the design and testing of the tools: Outokumpu Stainless Ltd Röyttä Harbour, Port of Oulu Ltd, Port of Raahe Ltd and Port of Kalajoki Ltd.

Concrete tools on energy management. which have been developed in the project, will be presented, explained, and demonstrated in practice. The toolkit is easy-to-use and can be also used after the seminar. You will get access to available guiding materials, which can be used to address following issues in ports:

  • how to conduct energy audits
  • how to assess solar energy potential
  • how to calculate carbon footprint, and
  • how to build a strategic energy management plan.

If you are working in port sector or with maritime issues, or are just interested about the energy, environment or sustainability issues of these sectors, register now. The event is organised in a hybrid mode, so remote attendance is also possible, if you can’t make it to Oulu, in Finland.

The event is also part of the EU’s Maritime Day in My Country events, so the focus of the event is on European ports, not just Finnish ones. The seminar offers an excellent opportunity to meet, make new contacts and learn more about port sustainability. Welcome to register and participate!
